While our preschoolers visit our family farm every day, we're seeking an individual who can assist the teachers during their farm visits which occurs M-TH 9:
15-11:
30ish.
Responsibilities would include:
Supervising children around the animals Demonstrating and assisting children with brushing, petting and interacting with the animals Educating children on basic animal husbandry skills - this is all laid out for you in our weekly lesson plans.
Bussing children to and from the farm using our mini school bus (a driveway away).
Job Requirements Experience working with children ages 3-5 Farm animal experience is preferred but we're willing to train the right person! All of our animals are beyond people friendly, but we are finding that another set of hands would be beneficial Be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds Pass a background check (through the Office of Early Childhood) Hours This is a position for someone who has some scheduling flexibility.
The children visit the farm from 9:
30-11:
45(ish) daily Monday through Thursday.
This would last Present-June.
How it works! When the children visit the farm, the teachers assist in putting on their overalls and barn boots.
Then, the teacher hosts a short lesson with the intent of engaging the children in conversation about topics that are new to them! After, the children break into small groups and go into the stalls for direct interaction with animals (you would have your own small group of 3-5 kids).
The groups will rotate seeing the animals in the barn classroom that day (we have three big stalls).
The group sizes don't exceed 13 children - from there we break them up into small groups in which one of those groups you'll supervise.
You'll help the children hold baby bunnies, chicks, ducks and show them how to appropriately pet and brush the bigger animals (goats, sheep, donkey, mini horse, alpaca).
